Dental Crowns
As firm as your teeth may be, there are some instances where your teeth can weaken or decay. Some damage can be dealt with by simple fillings or dental bonding, but when the tooth becomes too weak to support itself, you may need extra protection. When your tooth needs additional support, Dr. Justin Crocker may suggest dental crowns as the answer. Our team at Lytle Family Dentistry offers dental crown procedures along with our other general dentistry services.
What is a dental crown? This is a question we often get when patients come to us in need of tooth repair. A dental crown, or a tooth crown, is a mold made from an impression of your tooth. There are two different types of crowns, metal, and porcelain. While metal is a more durable option, most patients prefer the porcelain mold to better match the appearance of their natural teeth.
Restore Cracked or Damaged Teeth
Dental crowns provide complete coverage of the tooth when damaged. The tooth crown procedure is one that usually takes two appointments. The first visit will consist of Dr. Justin Crocker and his team creating an impression or mold of your tooth. They may also give you a temporary crown if the damage requires immediate attention while they wait for the permanent mold to finish. Once the lab completes the permanent mold, they will bond it to your teeth during a second appointment.
You may have also heard the term tooth cap instead of tooth crown and wondered what is the difference between a tooth cap vs crown. These two are the same; there is no difference between a tooth cap and a crown.
