Repairs to Cracked or Broken Teeth

Our teeth are one of the most vital parts of our bodies, sometimes even stronger than bones. Yet, this doesn’t mean that our teeth are immune to cracks. When we bite down on a hard object, the pressure can be too much and can cause everything from a hairline crack in the tooth to a broken tooth.

Dr. Justin Crocker and his team of dental experts will examine your cracked or broken tooth and determine what treatment is best for you. It may be as easy as performing a routine filling or may require a root canal or dental crown. If you have a cracked front tooth an option you may consider is looking into our restorative dentistry options.

When you have a cracked tooth it is important to give us a call immediately to schedule an appointment. The last thing you want to do is wait for the problem to get worse. This is why at Lytle Family Dentistry we offer emergency dentistry.

For whatever reason, if you are unable to make it in for an emergency dental visit there are some at-home remedies. While we do not recommend these as a final fix they are helpful when you cannot make it in. Here are a few ways to fix a cracked tooth naturally:

  • Rinse with warm salt water at least two to three times a day or after a meal. This is important to do if you cannot get in for an appointment right away because the saltwater will act as an antiseptic to remove any bacteria from the area.
  • Press an ice pack to the area on your cheek. By using an ice pack you can reduce any swelling or inflammation that may occur.
  • If you need to go to sleep we recommend elevating your head to try and reduce the pressure on your mouth and jaw.
  • Be careful when you are biting down on any objects as this may cause the crack to expand or create further damage.

Hairline cracks in the tooth, cracked molars and broken teeth are all things anyone can get you. If you find yourself in a situation where you are in need of tooth repair you can call us at Lytle Family Dentistry.
